How do you choose a laminate flooring colour?
Laminate flooring is the best option for a floor with the look of wood. Although it is not made of wood, it bears an astonishing resemblance to natural timber, giving a uniquely natural result.
What is more, laminate floors, or the different types of wood laminate, need no special maintenance, are easy to clean and durable. You can keep your floor looking good for years without having to wax, polish or sand it.
Light brown laminate flooring
Light brown laminate floors are ideal for small rooms, as they reflect light and make a room feel bigger.
If you want a cheerful, bright home, this is your colour. The result is a room full of energy.
White laminate flooring
White laminate floors are very much in fashion. Want to create a Nordic-style room? Then this is the colour for you, along with light brown, white and light beige tones that reflect the light and make the room look bigger and more impressive.
White laminate flooring is a very popular choice, especially now that Nordic-style decor is so widespread. If your home is small and does not get much natural light, it is a perfect alternative. To stop your home feeling too cold, you can add touches of colour on the walls, furniture and curtains.
A drawback? Although they hide dust well, dark marks such as mud will be more visible. In country houses, therefore, they will need a little more upkeep to stay clean.
Grey laminate flooring
Grey laminate floors provide a neutral backdrop for anything you want to put in your home. Greys are elegant tones that go perfectly with both warm and cool colours and share the same advantage as browns, namely that they are very easy to keep clean at all times. A modern, open-plan grey floor will look perfect. Likewise, if you have classic furniture and do not plan to change it, a light grey floor will update the decor and give it a more contemporary feel.
Dark laminate flooring
Dark floors give a look that is both elegant and warm. These tones are ideal for very spacious rooms, as they make them look smaller, creating a thoroughly cosy atmosphere.
Black laminate flooring
We finish with black floors, which bring style and luxury to the home. They are a great choice to go with modern, clean-lined decor and they really catch the eye. To make them stand out even more, paint the walls white for contrast: it is a combination that never fails.
It is true that black floors need more upkeep, as dust shows sooner than on light floors, which is why we recommend them for flats without direct access to gardens or areas with soil. Better safe than sorry!
Before deciding: furniture, light, size and use
- Furniture, doors and walls. If you are not changing the furniture, choose the floor with it in mind: the shade of the doors and woodwork is what most affects the result.
- Size. Light tones (light oak, beige) make the room look bigger; dark tones (walnut, wenge) make it cosier but smaller.
- Light. Light tones work better in rooms with little natural light; very bright living rooms can take medium or dark tones.
- Use. In high-traffic areas or rooms opening onto the garden, medium tones hide dust and marks better (we look at this in floors that hide dirt).
- Sample at home. Take a sample home and look at it in the room's light at different times of day: colours in the shop can be deceptive.
If you prefer natural wood, you will find the options in the best parquet colours.
As you can see, there are not that many options to choose from, which makes the choice easier. Now you have a clearer idea of which laminate flooring colour to choose: it all depends on how the colours in your home work together. Remember that at Payresa we specialise in parquet installation in Malaga.
