Types of wall panelling

Wall panelling is a wall covering made of tongue-and-groove boards or panels fitted vertically, horizontally or just up to dado height. It protects the wall from knocks and scuffs, hides imperfections and completely changes the look of a room. These are the styles we install most often today:

  • Natural wood panelling (pine, oak): warm and classic, for bedrooms, country houses and living rooms.
  • Lacquered MDF panelling in white or a colour: the most popular modern panelling, plain or V-groove, ideal for headboards and dado panelling.
  • Slat wall panelling: spaced slats on acoustic felt, widely used in living rooms, offices and reception areas.
  • PVC or vinyl panelling: water-resistant, for bathrooms, kitchens and high-traffic areas.
  • 3D or textured panelling: panels with relief to create a feature wall.

Where it works best

  • Headboards and bedroom walls, to dado height or floor to ceiling.
  • Hallways, staircases and entrance halls, where walls get scuffed.
  • Living rooms and TV areas, with slat panelling that also improves the acoustics.
  • Hotels, restaurants and offices in Malaga and on the Costa del Sol looking for a warm, hard-wearing finish.

Wall panelling prices in Malaga: what they depend on

We do not work with fixed rates: we adjust the price to each project according to the square metres, the manufacturer and the chosen model. After a free visit and measurement, we give you a fixed, itemised quote. This is what has the most influence:

  • Material and finish: wood, lacquered MDF, PVC or acoustic slats.
  • Height: dado panelling at half height or floor-to-ceiling panelling.
  • Condition of the wall: whether it needs levelling or battens fitted first.
  • Cuts and finishing: sockets, windows, corners and finishing mouldings.
  • Lacquering or painting on site, if the panelling is supplied unfinished.

How we install wall panelling, step by step

  1. Visit and choice of style. We measure the wall and show you samples of the finishes that suit the room.
  2. Fixed quote. We itemise the metres of panelling, finishing and timescale.
  3. Wall preparation. We check the wall is flat and, if needed, fit battens to level it.
  4. Installation. We fit the boards, glued or nailed to battens, with clean cuts around sockets, frames and corners.
  5. Finishing and clean-up. We fit the finishing mouldings, go over the joints and leave the room clean.

Timescales: the number of working days depends on the metres, the height and whether the wall needs levelling; it is set out in writing in the quote.

Frequently asked questions about wall panelling

How much does it cost to panel a wall?

It depends on the material (lacquered MDF, natural wood, slats or PVC), whether the wall is panelled to half height or up to the ceiling, and the condition of the wall. We tailor the price to each project and give you a fixed, no-obligation quote after the visit.

What type of wall panelling is in fashion?

The most requested are lacquered MDF panelling in white or soft tones, at half height, and wooden slat panelling on felt for living rooms and TV areas.

Can you fit wall panelling in a bathroom or kitchen?

Yes, if you choose PVC or vinyl panelling, which does not swell with water. MDF and natural wood are not suitable for areas that get wet.

Do I need to remove textured plaster or tiles first?

Usually not. The panelling is fitted on battens or glued to the existing wall, as long as it is sound. We assess it during the visit.

Does wall panelling insulate against cold or noise?

It adds a little comfort, especially wood or slat panelling on felt, but it is no substitute for insulation. If you want to insulate, take a look at our acoustic wall coverings.
